Tree Dog was the best dog we've ever known. And he was a good representation of the breed. They meet everything we look for in a dog and fit our family almost perfectly. However, it may be fun to own a different type of dog. Plus no other boxer could replace Tree.
English Bulldog
Sweet, funny, love kids, love their familes. However, they're kind of expensive (not a major consideration) and they have tons of health issues which would not be fun.
Whippet
A new idea for us, but the more we look into them the more they're rising up the charts. Pros: can run up to 40mph. Cons: ugly as sin (and not in a cute bulldog type way).
Staffordshire Bull Terrier
Pretty good looking dog. Muscular and active, but not as big as a boxer. They love their families and they're excellent with children. The negative here is that they're notorious for going after smaller animals. So they're not a breed that'd be good to let off the leash in a park which is a major drawback.
French Bulldog
Crystal's favorite as far as looks go. And Matthew's already decided if we go this route his name should be Wesley. They're kind of expensive, have a few health and breathing issues, and can be stubborn when training.
It's not 100% that our final choice will come from the above list. There are many other breeds to be explored. The one major characteristic that does rule out most breeds, however, is long hair. Unfortunately neither Matthew nor Crystal are willing to entertain the idea of living with a long-haired dog.
Other possible, yet unlikely, considerations yet to break their way into the top 5:
Weimaraner
Italian Greyhound
Pug
Boston Terrier
Any feedback or thoughts, whatsoever, would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

what happened to tree dog :(?
Tree Dog passed away on December 18, 2008. It made for a sad month for us. But all things considered, he had a great life and thankfully it was not a long drawn out end for him.
Weimaraner by a landslide. I had one when Dalene and Crystal were 2 years old. One story I have is , we lived in the country. and Dalene got out of the yard. We heard a car honking, and what had happened is Dalene was sanding in the road. Sophie was between her and the car and would,nt let the driver of the car get out to move Dalene out of the road. We had Sophie til Dalene was about 12 years old. Best baby sitter, hunting dog, guard dog, and friend of the family a guy could ask for.
I am sorry to hear about tree dog. I loved him very much. He was so awesome when we visited you guys. I think I like Uncle Damon's choice. Looks like a great dog. Good luck. We have three dogs not too. An all black scottish/wired/jack russell terrior- very hyper. We also have a mixed german shephard- very sweet and also goes after animals we don't introduce her too. Finally for Christmas I got a papered bloodhound- what a beautiful dog very clumsy, howls, plays, and slobbers. So beautiful. They are all females. Trixie(Terrior), Zoey(Shepherd), and Abbie(bloodhound). Good luck and we love you guys.
NO! I am so sorry! I had no idea. He was such a great dog. I know ya'll will miss him so much.
I voe Boston Terrier. I looked into those a lot a long time ago and they are supposed to be great dogs, and amazing with children. Smaller yes, but great temperments and very smart. (that is what I read anyways.) Let us know what you decide! Looking forward to meeing your new family member. What happened to Tree Dog? Was he sick?
Jig,
We think he probably had a tumor on his brain. It all happened quite suddenly. He had a few days of sickness. Matthew took him to the vet. He had seizures there off and on all day, and died that evening. It was shocking and incredibly sad. But we are thankful that he died quickly and wasn't sick for a long time.
Sorry to hear about Tree!!
Little Liam is so cute! I love his big brown eyes!
I like the Weimaraner as a choice for the next dog. They just are pretty to me. I love their soft coats.
Wishing you well on the upcoming birth of the new baby!!
